Reference Range

Transudates typically <2.5-3.0 gm/dL.  Exudates are typically >3.0 gm/dL.  When used in conjunction with serum total protein, in transudates, the ratio of pleural fluid total protein to serum total protein is less than 0.5.  Exudates have ratios greater than 0.5..
