Specimen Requirements

Submit the following specimen:

Specimen Type:  Whole blood
Container/Tube: Blue top (citrate)
Specimen Volume: Tube must be filled
Collection Instructions (see also special instructions) below:
1.  Tube must be filled to the fill line.
2.  If using butterfly, discard tube must be drawn first.

Special Instructions:

Inpatients:

Collect 2 citrated blue tops filled appropriately and send to lab on ice immediately.

Outreach:

Collect 2 citrated blue tops and send 2, 0.5 ml ml aliquots of platelet poor plasma, frozen.

Reference Bench:  Call courier for STAT pick up.
