Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
 

Specimen Type: Plasma

Container/Tube:  Lithium heparin, no gel tubes

Specimen Type: Serum

Container/Tube: Red top only, no gel tubes

Additional Instructions: 

• Must be centrifuged within 2 hours of collection.  Serum or plasma must be separated from red cells and transferred into aliquot tube.
• Samples should be drawn 12 hours after oral administration of digoxin or 6 hours after IV administration.
•  Patient must not be on digitoxin or Digibind. Avoid grossly hemolyzed, icteric or lipemic specimens.
