The D-Dimer Hemosil HS 500 assay is for the quantitative determination of D-Dimer in plasma using an enhanced immunotubidimetric method.  The results are reported in fibrinogen-equivalent units (FEU).  D-Dimer levels can be increased in the following conditions:  disseminated intravascular coagulation, cancers, hemorrhages, post-operative period, and infections.

Using a cut-off of 500 FEU ng/mL the assay can be used to exclude pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep venous thrombosis (DVT) with 100% sensitivity in conjunction with a clinical pretest probability assessment.
