Specimen Requirements

Submit the following specimen:

Specimen Type: Plasma

Container/Tube: Lithium Heparin tube (no gel)

Minimum Draw Volume:  Must fill tube

Additional Instructions: No gel tubes accepted

In-Patient Specimen:

1. Transport immediately to laboratory on ice.

2. Specimen must be processed within 30 minutes of draw.

Out-Patient Specimen:

1. Draw sample in pre-chilled heparinized tube (no gel)

2. Transport immediately to laboratory on ice.

3. Specimen must be processed within 30 minutes of draw.

OR

1. Draw sample in pre-chilled heparinized tube (no gel)

2. Immediately centrifuge specimen; and transfer plasma to a plastic tube.

3. Freeze plasma immediately.  Transport frozen.
