Interpretative Guidelines for Acceava Mono Cassette
A patient may have a negative mono test in the presence of
hematological and clinical evidence of disease due to the
following:
1. Some patients take longer than 3 months to develop heterophile
antibodies detected in this assay.
2. Some individuals will not produce measureable heterophile
antibodies.
3. Infection may not be due to Epstein Barr.
Heterophile antibody production can also be found in patients
with leukemia, cytomegalovirus, Burkett’s lymphoma,
Rheumatoid Arthritis, adenovirus, viral hepatitis and Toxoplasma
gondii.
(If negative, Epstein-Barr Virus Panel will be sent to Mayo (additional charge applies; see that test listing for CPT code)
