Useful For
Detection of IgG antibodies directed against heparin/platelet factor 4 complexes that are implicated in the pathogenesis of immune-mediated type II heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, spontaneous heparin platelet-factor 4 IgG antibody, and thrombocytopenia and thrombosis occurring after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 adenovirus vector vaccine.
 

Performing Laboratory

Screening test:  Torrance Memorial Laboratories

Confirmatory test:  Mayo Clinic Laboratories Rochester (alias SRAU)

Specimen Requirements

Submit the following specimens (two tubes required - see below):
 

Patient Preparation: Fasting is preferred but not required 

 

Specimen Types:  Citrated blue top and red top (confirmatory testing)

 

Collection Container/Tubes: 1.8 or 2.7 mL citrated blue top, plus Red top 

 

Specimen Volume: Full blue top and 1 mL serum red top for possible confirmatory testing

 

Collection Instructions: 

Blue top

Deliver blue top fresh to Coagulation department in <2 hours (preferred)

If >2 hours, Centrifuge and aliquot plasma into a plastic vial and freeze. 

Red top

Centrifuge and aliquot into a plastic vial (used for reflexed positive samples)

 

Reject due to:  Gross hemolysis and/or gross lipemia
