Interpretive Guidelines Ascites Fluid:
Amylase in normal peritoneal fluid is similar to blood levels.
Elevated amylase levels are seen in more than 90% of the patients
with acute pancreatitis, pancreatic trauma, or pancreatic
pseudocyst. Gastroduodenal perforation, acute mesenteric thrombosis
and bowel necrosis may also produce elevated amylase levels.
