Specimen Requirements

Submit the following specimens:

BLOOD AND 24 HOUR URINE REQUIRED

 

Hospital Preferred Specimen Type: Plasma

Container/Tube: Lithium heparin gel

 

Outreach Preferred Specimen Type: Serum

Container/Tube: Serum gel

 

Spin Instructions:
Serum gel:  
Allow to sit for 30 minutes prior to spinning.  Spin within 2 hours of collection.

Heparin plasma: Spin within 45 minutes of collection.    

 

Also acceptable:  Red top tube

 

Specimen Type: Urine, 24 hour

Container/Tube: Plastic urine collection container

Specimen Volume: Entire collection

Collection Instructions: No preservative. Refrigerate specimen during collection, and send specimen refrigerated.

Additional Information:

1.  Starting and ending times of collection are required.

2.  Current height and weight of patient must be provided
