Specimen Requirements
Submit the following specimen:
Specimen Type: Breath specimen
Container: BreathID (new collection kit - please contact lab)
Collection Instructions:
1. Follow instructions included with kit.
2. Mixing the (13)C-Urea Tablet
3. Dissolve the Citrica and the (13)C-enriched urea tablet in 150 to 200 mL (5.1 to 6.8 oz.) of tap water in the provided drinking cup.
4. Close the lid firmly using both hands. Place fingers over lid and shake thoroughly for a few minutes, until the Citrica Powder and the urea tablet are completely dissolved.
Note: Tiny particles may remain visible after thorough mixing. However, if more substantial particulate matter is still present after five minutes of mixing, discard the solution and repeat the procedure with a new kit.
Additional Instructions:
1. Fasting (1 hour).
2. Do not collect if patient is < 3 years old.
3. Patients should not have taken bismuth/Tritec, antibiotics, proton-pump inhibitors (eg, Prilosec, Prevacid, Aciphex, Protonix, and Nexium) or Pepto-Bismol for 2 weeks prior to testing.
4. Remind patient that Pranactin ®- Citric contains phenylalanine (one of the protein components of Aspartame). Phenylketonurics restrict dietary phenylalanine.

Breath Sample Handling Instructions:
The analysis of the breath samples should be conducted within 14 days after breath collection; the filled Breath Sample Bags should be stored at 15° - 30°C (59° - 86°F) protected from direct sunlight or sharp objects. If desired, use the provided sample transport bag for transport of the breath samples
